What is a Histree?

A Histree is a dynamic multimedia illustration of your interests, experiences, or your life as a whole.

What is Making Histree?

Content drives connections on OurHistree. You start by building and linking individual Histrees, which grow like trees, extending branches out to form an extensive network of shared stories. Histrees are living content that become more valuable and more interesting over time. It’s not about looking backward, it’s about creating something of lasting value – that’s, Making Histree.

What can I put in a Histree?

You can include audio, video, text, and pictures. You must be the sole copyright owner or have republish rights for all the content you include in a Histree.

Are there any Histrees I can look at as examples?

Yes, just click "Explore" and you can see what’s making Histree now. Histrees can literally be about anything that matters to you -- family vacations, favorite concerts, school sporting events, pets), or anything else that moves you. As you create more Histrees, the web of your life takes shape and moves forward.

Do I have to be a member to use OurHistree?

In order to create, share, add to Histrees, and have full site functionality, you need to be a member. However, you can explore and browse public Histrees without being a member.

Becoming a member is easy and free and you can cancel at any time. Join now to get the most out of your experience and to start Making Histree!

How do I create a Histree?

Click "Histrees." From your home page, you can also click "Create Histree" and follow the on-screen instructions. There are 3 ways to Make Histree:

You can start by uploading or importing the content you’d like to include. Then add items to your Histree. You can also rearrange the order of your content. Your Histree will continue to grow as you (or your invited friends) add more fun content to it.

You can start by inviting friends to Make Histree with you. You can all contribute photos, text, video, and audio to bring the Histree to life.

You can start by adding text - Start Making Histree by adding some words. This can be similar to a blog entry, yet your Histree will continue to grow as you (or your invited friends) add content to it.

How do I get my multimedia Content onto OurHistree.com?

Click "Content." You can either upload items from your computer hard drive or import content from Facebook or Flickr.

To upload items from your computer, after clicking "Add Content," browse the folders on your computer and select the items you’d like to upload.

To import content from another Facebook and Flickr, click "Content" and follow the on-screen instructions.

We ask for your information just to import the content you’ve requested. We DO NOT store your user name and password.

Are there file-size restrictions?

Yes, all files must be under 100MB.

Will my media be compressed?

Yes, your media will be compressed for optimal web viewing. However, coming soon – we will be announcing a premium plan that allows you to save all content in original sizes.

Can I pay a fee to maintain original file size and quality?

Can one piece of media be part of multiple Histrees?

Yes. Just select it from your Content Bin each time you’d like to add it to another Histree.

How many Histrees can I create?

You can create 100 Histrees for free. After you create your first Histree, you’ll get a good sense of the OurHistree platform. However, the more Histrees you create the more robust experience you will have. As you use OurHistree more frequently, the system learns your preferences and interests and can link you up with other related Histrees.

How long do my Histrees last?

Your Histrees last as long as you want them to. You can always access them by logging into http://www.ourhistree.com.

Can I make a Histree before an event takes place?

Yes! You can start Making Histree before the event and then add to it during and after the event.

For example, you could start a birthday party Histree by simply uploading the invitation. Then, you can invite friends and family to add their birthday wishes and related content (pictures, videos, etc). After the party, you and your guests can continue to add photos, videos, audio, and memories to the Histree.

Can my business use OurHistree?

Yes, OurHistree is a very powerful platform for businesses. Several companies are already using OurHistree for both internal and consumer-facing purposes. Contact us for more information about our Enterprise software.

Can my band use OurHistree?

Yes!! OurHistree is a great way for musicians to connect with their fans. You can create Histrees for your live shows, your side-projects and and much more. Upload new songs, music, videos, and write personal notes from the band!

You can also allow your fans to add to your Histrees. This is extremely powerful when fans can upload content specific to each show or adventure they have related to your music.

Can my sports team use OurHistree?

Yes!! Each member of your sports team can create a Histree about themselves and include their season stats, pictures, video clips, interests, and other biographical information. As a team, you can create Histrees for each game, team events and fundraisers, post-season games, etc. At the end of each season, you’ll have a dynamic, multimedia record of the season.

Can my family use OurHistree?

Yes, OurHistree is a great way to create a living record of special family events. You can create Histrees about birthdays, first steps, graduations, family trips, pets, BBQs, parties, etc. Our enhanced privacy features give you the option to ensure that the only people who can see your family Histree are the friends and family you designate.

Can my school use OurHistree?

Yes! OurHistree brings your school yearbook to life! Your classmates can add video, pictures, audio, and text to their Histrees. You can connect with other students at your school about similar interests. Your theater department can create Histrees of their performances. Your school sports teams can keep exciting living records of all their players and games.

What about privacy?

We know you might not want your boss to see your party pictures or strangers to see your family pictures. We recreated a platform that offers you the flexibility to make a Histree with select people or everybody on the network. There are 3 privacy settings available:

How do I set privacy preferences?

You must log-in to set privacy preferences. Once logged in, click "Privacy" and follow the on-screen instructions. Get more information about our privacy policy.

What if I want to change my privacy preferences?

It’s easy! Just click "My Settings," then click "Search" or "Event Privacy" and update your preferences. You must be logged in order to access and update your privacy settings. Get more information about our privacy policy.

How do I share a Histree?

When viewing a Histree -- Click the "Invite" tab. If you want to Invite people you are already friends with on the site, click "Collaborators" and follow the instructions. If you want to invite people who are not members of OurHistree, click "Contacts" and follow the instructions to manually enter email addresses or import from your own address book.

How do I edit my Histrees?

Click "Histrees," navigate to the Histree you’d like to edit, click "Edit." Don’t forget to select the Histree you wish to edit.

How do I invite friends to OurHistree?

Click "Friends" and follow the on-screen instructions. You can invite friends individually or import your address book.

Can I invite friends to add to my Histree?

Yes! Inviting people to your Histree turns it into a multimedia Wiki that continues to grow.

What is a Personal Web

A Personal Web is a way to connect your Histrees together. After creating a Histree, go to the "Connect" tab and click "Create Personal Web." Select and add Histrees from the drop-down menu to connect Histrees over time.

Can I add to somebody else’s Histree?

Yes, you can add to somebody’s Histree if the creator made it public or if somebody invited you to their Histree.

Can I request to see a Private Histree?

That depends. By default, Private Histrees don’t show up in search results, so unless you’re the creator, you wouldn’t even know about them. However, if the creator decides to make the title of the Histree visible and searchable, then you can ask the creator for permission to contribute to the Histree.

What are Events?

Events are notifications about things happening within your Histrees or the people you’re Making Histree with. Events are seeds of future Histrees and are a great way to grow your Histrees. They can form the basis of content to create new Histrees or content to get new people to create more related Histrees.

What is a Communitree?

Content drives connections on OurHistree. You start by building and linking Histrees, which grow like trees, extending branches out to form an extensive network of shared experiences and interests. Groups or organizations can formalize these networks into Communitree that allow for more robust branding and functionality. Let us know if you're interested in forming a Communitree. Can I get my own Communitree?

Yes, please contact us if your company or organization is interested in getting your own Communitree.
